Abstract
ABSTRACT
Community Perception on the Presence of Beef Cattle Farming
(Case Study of Mr. Setyo’s Neighborhood in Tugurejo Hamlet, Sragi Village, Talun District, Blitar Regency)
The presence of beef cattle farms within residential areas can generate both positive and negative impacts depending on management practices and community perceptions. This study aims to identify and analyze public perception of a small-scale beef cattle farm managed by Mr. Setyo in Tugurejo Hamlet, Sragi Village, Talun Sub- district, Blitar Regency. A descriptive quantitative method was applied, using questionnaires, interviews, and direct observation with 60 respondents living within a 200-meter radius of the farm. Results indicate that environmental disturbances caused by the farm are minimal; most residents reported no significant problems related to odor, flies, or water pollution. However, economic benefits to the community remain limited, as the majority of respondents have not received job opportunities, access to affordable beef cattle, or regular distribution of cattle manure as organic fertilizer. These findings suggest that while the farm is well-managed environmentally, its social and economic contributions are still lacking. To enhance its role in local development, it is recommended to involve residents in farm operations, improve the distribution of manure as fertilizer, and establish better collaboration between farmers and the community. Such participatory approaches could foster mutually beneficial relationships and strengthen the sustainability of small-scale beef cattle farming.
